Who they are
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non-profit research and conservation facility in Chengdu, Sichuan, China — the native range of the giant panda. Founded in 1987 with just six rescued wild pandas, the base has spent the decades since turning the species back from the brink of extinction.
By 2008, over 120 panda births had happened at the base. Today its captive population is one of the largest in the world, and its science underpins reintroduction efforts across China.
